A few months ago, I made up a 47″ x 57″ lap quilt using fabric left over from a project. This is the perfect size to experiment with new Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) motifs. The squares are 14″ log cabins which sew together quickly and give a nice area for having some Free Motion Fun.
I used a Cindy Needleham stencil to mark a center circle in each square. Alternating squares (there are 12 total in the quilt), each square has cross hatch and feathers. Feathers on the outside of the circle form a wreath with a cross hatch center, which reminds me of a sunflower. Feathers on the inside of the circle are then cross hatched on the outside of the circle.
Superior Threads Rainbow in a variegated pastel is used throughout the entire quilt. Borders are FMQ using a feather motif on the wide strips and a plait on the narrow strips. I am calling my new feather border motif Feathers & Seahorses!

The binding is made of leftover strips, alternating colors from the squares as there is not enough of a single color for the binding.
My other completed project is a Wiksten Haori Jacket pattern. This uses a cotton/lurex/linen fabric. I love this fabric and have used it for several jackets. It is gorgeous to look at, irons and stitches beautifully and it’s washable! And it goes with every color.

Hi Lennea! Ooh-la-la! I agree, I think you had a lot of free-motion quilting fun. I wish I could hold that quilt and look at it closely. I like to follow the quilting line with my finger or whatever I can on the computer screen to get the pattern in my head. I’m going to PIN a picture or two for the future!
