Secret Garden Table Runner!

A friend loved my block 1 of Secret Garden so much that she requested a table runner using that block, minus the key and bow. Now I get to recreate the block a different way! I love re-imagining my blocks in different ways, so I am happy to undertake this challenge!

Silver’s table is very long; the runner needs to be about 56″ long. I am dividing the length into three sections with an appliqué flower basket on each of the two ends and diamond piecing in the center section using my 60 degree ruler. A narrow sash will separate each of the 10″ x 16″ section blocks. Narrow borders in the accent colors will complete the runner.

The request includes using deep and bright jewel tones, with lots of purple and yellow. I love using Moda Grunge, and found these two stunning colors (Loganberry and Sunflower) to set off the baskets.

This will be used for the center and for borders.
Accents and narrow borders.

Additionally, I am using some aqua grunge from stash for background, and adding will add some bits of my birdie background to the center as the requester has asked for birds to be included in the project.

I wanted a rustic, wood look planter to reflect that Silver and her spouse are pipe carvers and work with wood.
Fussy cut bird appliquéd with MonoPoly. This bird has personality!
Block 1!

The runner center. Silver likes to set a center piece on her runners, so I am making a pieced center block for her runner.

Block one and the center block.

Onto block two this week! Happy sewing all!
