On My Window is Finished!

On My Window Flowers Bloom is completed! This Esther Aliu pattern is a relatively easy and quick pattern, recommended for beginners to more advaned applique sewers. The pieces are a nice size and it comes with a full sized template for the window frame.

This is my second time making this beautiful, cheerful wall hanging. It finished at 35″ x 45″, and will brighten any wall with pots of flowers regardless of the weather and scenery outdoors.

I shared the first two blocks in an earlier blog, and now you can see the lower window sill of flowers as well as the quilting.

Blocks 3 & 4 are willowy stems with large, shamrock style leaves. I reduced the number of leaves from 5 to 3 to allow lots of interaction with the background birds. The color combo red/orange is reversed in each block and the long stems appliquéd using a deco stitch.

Before quilting: lovely tall blooms!
Quilting close up. I originally planned to quilt right over the birdies, but couldn’t do it!

Block 5 is a luxurious bouquet of huge blooms in yellow to orange shades to invite the eye to the lower sill. Purple elements were added because you can never go wrong adding purple to yellow or have too much purple!

Quilted!

The background is quilted using a matte white So Fine, 50 wt from Superior Threads in a McTavish style. Stitching around the flower blocks is done using my very favorite Fantastic in a spectacular blue/red/purple/cold variegated. I used this thread to blanket stitch around the interior edge of the narrow border and the curve of the window shape. The variegated is also used for the border swirls.

The border is waiting on a small yardage to arrive for completion.

Happy quilting!
