June Arrives

Yes I know, I missed a week. The FB sewing groups are slow and blog readership is down. We are just moving to Phase 2 of opening up lock down here in Washington State, though our household is not planning on venturing out except for essentials. I desperately miss hugging and seeing the grandchildren and my daughters up close and in person, but we make do with texts, messages, and phone calls.

But June arrives anyway. I confess to spending a fair amount of time working in our large garden as the weeds and wild berry vines are prolific and grow replacements while I sleep. The blooms arrive daily and here are a few of our latest beauties.

Clematis! The purple one is at least 7 inches across! These are just stunning.

Iris, shell-pink Azalea and a new purple Rhodie bloom!

Delicate Salvia blooms. I bought 2 of these last year at a close out sale in the fall and they were rather sad looking and root bound. Wasn’t sure if they would survive, but this one made it and is so pretty and fresh!

The Silk On Silk top is finished. I added some birds in the vase fabric, with bright pink wings to lighten the mood of the piece. My 100wt MicroQuilter thread arrived, but I can’t find any of the high loft Quilter’s Dream Supreme batting that I like to use for wall hangings. Did I put it away too carefully or use it up? More is ordered, but it will take a while to get here.

A tiny blue/black bead is used for the bird eyes.

Next up to start is the Nerd Quilt that I designed on EQ8 for my grandson. The fabric is special order from Spoonflower with electrical circuit designs in blues and greens that my grandson helped to select. Moda Grunge Dots from my stash will be used for sashings and a border. My grandson will be 16 in December and this is his year for a replacement quilt for the Star Wars quilt that I made for him five years ago.

The EQ8 design.
First blocks and a partial layout. Grandson approved!

This will go quickly as the blocks are 12.5″ square. The green circuit print will be used for a narrow border with a final border in the dark blue grunge dot, as shown in the EQ8 layout. This will be my second EQ8 creation.

Wishing peace and wellness to all my quilting friends.

  1. Hi Lennea! I’ll bet your grandson is quite pleased with the fabrics and the layout for his quilt. I just adore that fabric myself. We used a fabric with mathematical equations for a friend who is really into math. When he received the quilt he told his mom it had some of his favorite formulas on it. Who knew?!! Thanks for linking up this week. ~smile~ Roseanne
